The ferry crossing between Sorel-Tracy and Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola, Berthier (autoroute 40, exit 144 to Berthierville) operates the year round using 2 ferries: the M.V. Catherine-Legardeur and the M.V. Lucien-L. There is handicaped access on the Catherine-Legardeur only.

A brief history of the name M.V. Catherine-Legardeur
Damsel Catherine le Gardeur de Tilly, born 1649 in Sillery, Quebec, daughter of nobleman Charles le Gardeur de Tilly, married captain Pierre de Saurel of the Carignan regiment in Quebec city on October 10, 1668. Of noble blood, he was born in Grenoble in 1628 and arrived in Canada in 1665 where he erected Fort Sorel at the junction of the Richelieu river and the St-Lawrence river.
Well loved and respected by the colonists, Catherine le Gardeur lived for many years after. She died in Sorel at the age of 82 on June 23, 1732. She was buried in the local parish cemetery June 25, 1732.1
