The Sorel Mini Tourist Guide - Train station history
Bus schedule What to do in Sorel
In 1896 the South Shore Railway built the bridge "pont des chars" that crosses the Richelieu river. The present bus station was built in 1904. The structure and look has changed little and is still recognizable from the photos of 1910 and 1942. The two trees have since disappeared and the old rail line is now a biking path to Yamaska.
In the top photo is the locomotive repair shop of the Quebec Montreal and Southern Railway of 1900 along with some employees.

Canadian National abandoned the line in 1968 but it was still operational as late as 1979 when a now defunct company operated a special train from Montreal to Sorel using the CNR steam locomotive 6060.
